Conversion from Meter (m) to Fathom (fth) and vice versa
Updated on by Stefan BanseHere you can convert the Unit of length Meter into the unit Fathom and vice versa you can convert Fathom into Meter. By clicking the "Swap units" icon, you will always obtain the desired conversion in the calculation result, i.e., m to fth or fth to m. With the following calculator you can also calculate any other Unit of length.
Info about "Meter"
Meter is a basic unit of length in the International System of Units (SI) and other metric systems. All other units of length in the metric system are derived from the meter (e.g. 1 km = 1.000 m, 1m = 1.000 mm).
The meter was defined in 1799 based on measurements taken at the time as the ten millionth part of the distance from the North Pole to the equator. For this purpose, a so-called prototype meter was casted in platinum. Since 1983, the meter has been defined as the distance travelled by light in 1/299,792,458 seconds in a vacuum.
Info about "Fathom"
The fathom or thread is defined as the distance between the outstretched arms of an adult male and was defined as 6 feet (1.8288 meters).
The name is derived from the Old English word "fæðm" , which is related to the Danish word "favn". Its meaning is the same as "outstretched arms". In English speaking navigation, the fathom is often used as a unit of length to indicate depth.
Basis for conversion Meter (m) to Fathom (fth)
The abbreviation for the "Unit of length Meter" is m. The abbreviation for the "Unit of length Fathom" is fth.
