Info about "Yard"

The yard or step is very common in the Anglo-American countries, but does not belong to the international unit system SI (Système international d'unités). The yard or step is officially approved in Anglo-American countries and is used to describe medium lengths.

Over the years, various definitions have been given, for example, the yard was defined as the length of three feet or the distance from the tip of the nose to the tip of the thumb of Heinrich I's outstretched arm. Since 1956, the yard or step has been defined as follows: 1yard = 3feet = 0.9144 meters.

The foot was popular as a measure of length from very early times and it is still in use in Anglo-American countries today, but does not belong to the international unit system SI (Système international d'unités).

In different countries, its length usually corresponded to 28-32cm. Nowadays only the English foot is used. Therefore, 1 foot is equivalent to 30.48 centimeters or 1 foot is equivalent to 12 inches/inch.
