Ski boot size charts for women, men and children

Updated on by Stefan Banse

At the latest when buying ski boots, you can come across the Mondopoint sizes. While in this country, you might often come across European, British and American shoe sizes when buying shoes. Meanwhile, the situation is completely different for ski boots because these are now mostly offered in Mondopoint sizes.

With the Mondopoint Shoe Size Converter, you can convert any ski boot size (i.e., Mondopoint shoe sizes) into other common shoe size systems. And, of course, vice versa: you can calculate the right Mondopoint size for your ski boot based on your known shoe size.

Mondopoint Shoe Sizes Information

The Mondopoint system is so far the only boot size system standardised worldwide, while the conversion of other size systems currently includes a pre-standard defined by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization). Mondopoint and thus ski boot sizes are simply based on foot length in millimetres (1 mm = 0.039 inch). Mondopoint is now the official system for boot sizes in Russia, China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. It is partially or optionally used in Great Britain, India, Mexico and other European countries. It is also used as a standard by NATO and the military. However, it has also become established in the sports sector, especially for ski boots. The distances between the shoe sizes in the Mondopoint system are divided into 5 mm and 7.5 mm increments. In practice, 10 mm intervals have become established as whole sizes and 5 mm as half shoe sizes. Meanwhile, Mondopoint Size 0 starts at 0 mm foot length.

Conversion of ski boot sizes according to Mondopoint ISO standard

The Mondopoint Boot Size Converter determines the sizes according to the Mondopoint ISO standard. The ski boot size tables presented here were also created according to this ISO standard. The conversion to the other boot size systems was issued by the ISO as an international pre-standard.

However, in the other systems, there are quite often deviations from the shoe sizes theoretically calculated here and by ISO. Shoes in the other size systems often turn out larger or smaller, depending on the manufacturer or simply due to deviating standardisation.

ISO formula for calculating the Mondopoint boot size for ski boots

Mondopoint shoe size
=
Foot length (cm) × 10

The formula for the Mondopoint size clearly shows that this size indicates the foot length in mm.

Ski boot or Mondopoint size chart for adults

In compliance with the ISO specification, the following shoe size chart shows the results for all Mondopoint shoe sizes. Unlike the UK and US sizing systems, Mondopoint shoe sizes do not differentiate between men's and women's sizes.

Ski boot or Mondopoint size chart for children

The Mondopoint system commonly used for ski boots does not distinguish between adults and children, but this must be taken into account when converting to the other size systems, some of which have special children's sizes. Therefore, the ski boot size table for children is presented here as a supplement. Based on the ISO specification, the following boot size table applies for the conversion of Mondopoint to children's boot sizes.

In the size table for children's ski boots according to ISO, some fields are not filled. This is because the official ISO formula has not determined a correct size in the other size unit for the respective value. However, the Mondopoint shoe size converter also determines the rounded sizes for the missing fields. In the result window behind the “info” buttons, the calculation and rounding for your ski boot are described in detail.

An example of the calculation of ski boot sizes

Mr Snow wants to buy new ski boots. He has a shoe size of 43 and would now like to determine the appropriate Mondopoint shoe size.

1. Calculation of the foot length in cm based on the EU size

To calculate Mr. Snow's foot length, the ISO formula for calculating the EU shoe size must first be converted accordingly.

ISO formula for calculating the EU size

EU shoe size = (foot length in cm + 2 × 0.667) / 0.667

Explanation

  • One EU size equals two-thirds of a centimetre, i.e., 0.667 cm
  • Sizes start at 0
  • Two sizes of toe room are added on, therefore, 2 × 0.667 cm.

Modified formula for calculating the foot length

Foot length in cm = EU shoe size × 0.667 − 2 × 0.667

Calculation of Mr Snow's foot length

43.0 × 0.667 − 2 × 0.667 = 27.35 cm

Using this foot length in cm, the Mondopoint size for Mr Snow's ski boots can now be calculated using the appropriate ISO formula.

2. Calculate the Mondopoint size according to the determined foot length

To determine Mr Snow's Mondopoint size, the appropriate ISO conversion formula is used based on his foot length. Then the result of this calculation is rounded to the nearest 5 Mondopoint size.

Formula for Mondopoint size

Mondopoint size = foot length in cm ×10

Explanation

The formula clarifies that Mondopoint gives the foot length in mm.

Calculation of the Mondopoint size

27.35 cm × 10 = 273.5 Mondopoint

Rounding the result

Rounded to the nearest unit, this gives Mr Snow size 275 Mondopoint.

Mr Snow, with a Shoe Size 43, needs a ski boot with a Mondopoint Size 274.
