Mondopoint Shoe Sizes Information

The Mondopoint system was specifically defined by ISO and is based directly and solely on foot length. Therefore, it is the only shoe-size system with an ISO standard, while the other systems still correspond to the ISO standard used here. Mondopoint is now considered an official sizing system in Russia, China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. Alternatively, it applies in Great Britain, India, Mexico and other European countries. In addition, it is also used by NATO and the military, and now widely used in the sports sector, e.g., for ski boots and ballet shoes.

Unlike other historically developed shoe-size systems, the Mondopoint system is standardised worldwide. The other sizing systems are partly based (depending on the country or manufacturer) on the foot length, the inner shoe length and sometimes the length of the shoe last, which is why shoe sizes of these systems always turn out differently. The size intervals in the Mondopoint system were divided into 5 mm and 7.5 mm steps, whereby, in practice, 10 mm intervals have become established as whole sizes and 5mm as half shoe sizes. Meanwhile, Shoe Size 0 starts at 0 mm.

Calculation of Mondopoint shoe sizes according to ISO standard

The Mondopoint Shoe Size Calculator determines sizes according to the Mondopoint ISO standard. The Mondopoint shoe size tables presented here were also created in accordance with this ISO standard. The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) has defined the international conversion of shoe-size systems and thus issued an international pre-standard for the conversion from Mondopoint to the other systems. Nevertheless, in the other systems, there are often deviations from the shoe sizes theoretically calculated here. Shoes in the other size systems are thus often smaller or larger than the assumed on the basis of the size (depending on the manufacturer, or due to deviating standardisations).

ISO formula for calculating the Mondopoint shoe size

Mondopoint shoe size
=
foot length (cm) × 10

The formula for the Mondopoint size clearly shows that this size unit indicates the foot length in mm.

Mondopoint Shoe Size Chart

According to the official ISO technical specification, the following shoe-size tables are the results for all Mondopoint shoe sizes. Unlike some other shoe sizing systems, Mondopoint shoe sizes do not differentiate between men and women.

Mondopoint shoe size chart for children

The Mondopoint system does not distinguish between adults and children. But this must be taken into account when converting to other size systems because some have special children's sizes. Therefore, the Mondopoint size table for children is presented below. Based on the ISO specification, the following shoe-size table applies for the conversion of Mondopoint to children's shoe sizes.

In the size table for Mondopoint shoes according to ISO, some fields are not filled. This is because the official ISO formula is yet to determine a corresponding size in the other size units for the corresponding value. However, the Mondopoint Shoe Size Converter also determines the rounded sizes for the missing fields. The calculation and rounding are described in detail in the results window behind the "info" buttons.

An example of the calculation of the Mondopoint shoe size

Mr Berg wants to buy new ski boots and has a pair of Mondopoint Shoe Size 300 at hand. He wants to know which EU shoe size (i.e., former German, Italian or Spanish shoe size) corresponds to the Mondopoint Size 300. He would also like to calculate the matching UK size and US size.

1. Calculation of the theoretical foot length using the Mondopoint Size 300

First, the foot length is calculated using the Mondopoint Shoe Size 300. Meanwhile, the foot length serves as the basis for calculating the other sizes. For this purpose, the ISO formula for determining the Mondopoint shoe size is converted accordingly using the foot length.

ISO formula for calculating the Mondopoint size

Mondopoint shoe size = foot length (cm) × 10

Explanation

Mondopoint size corresponds to the foot length in millimetres.

Modified Mondopoint formula for calculating foot length

Foot length in cm = Mondopoint shoe size / 10

Calculation of Mr Berg's foot length

300 / 10 = 30.00 cm

Using this foot length, the shoe size for Mr Berg's EU, UK and US size is now calculated using the appropriate ISO formula.

2. Calculate EU size based on the determined foot length

To determine Mr Berg's EU size, the appropriate ISO conversion formula is first used based on his foot length. Then the result of this calculation is rounded to the nearest 5 Mondopoint size.

Formula for EU size

EU shoe size = (foot length in cm + 2 × 0.667) / 0.667

Explanation

  • One size equals two-thirds of a centimetre, i.e., 0.667 cm
  • Sizes start at 0
  • Two sizes of toe clearance are added on, therefore, 2 × 0.667 cm.

Here, you can find more detailed information on EU shoe sizes.

Calculation of the EU size

(30.00 cm + 2 × 0.667) / 0.667 = 46.978 EU

Rounding the result

Rounded to the nearest whole or half size, this gives Mr Berg Size 47.0 EU.

Mr Berg's ski boot with Mondopoint Size 300 corresponds to EU Size 47.

3. calculate UK shoe size using Mr Berg's calculated foot length.

To calculate Mr Berg's UK size, the appropriate ISO conversion formula is first used based on his foot length. Then the result of this calculation is rounded to the nearest whole or half size.

ISO formula for UK size

UK shoe size = (foot length + 2 × 0.847) / 0.847 − 25

Explanation

  • Each size has the length of one-third of an inch, i.e., 0.847 cm
  • The first 12 sizes are not numbered
  • The 13 sizes that follow are children's sizes
  • The adult sizes start after the children's sizes with Size 1
  • Therefore, 25 sizes are subtracted
  • Finally, two sizes of toe clearance are added on, i.e., 2 × 0.847 cm

Here, you can find more comprehensive information on UK shoe sizes .

Calculation of the UK size

(30.00 cm + 2 × 0.847) / 0.847 − 25 = 12.419 UK

Rounding the result

Rounded to the nearest whole or half size, this gives Mr Berg Size 12.5 UK.

Mr Berg's Mondopoint Shoe Size 300 corresponds to UK Size 12.5 after conversion.

4. Calculate US shoe size using Mr Berg's foot length

To determine Mr Berg's US size, the appropriate ISO conversion formula for US men's sizes is used based on their foot length. Then the calculation result is rounded to the nearest whole or half size.

ISO formula for US size

US men's size = (foot length + 2 × 0.847) / 0.847 − 24

Explanation

  • One size corresponds, as in the English system, to one-third of an inch, i.e., 0.847 cm
  • The first 12 sizes are not numbered
  • The following 13 shoe sizes are reserved for children's sizes
  • The sizes for men start with Size 1 after these children's sizes
  • Therefore, 24 sizes are subtracted because, in practice, the US system is largely aligned with the UK system. However, US men's sizes are one size larger than the corresponding UK shoe sizes for the same foot length
  • Two sizes of toe clearance are added on, i.e., 2 × 0.847 cm

Here, you can find more comprehensive information on US shoe sizes .

Calculation of the US size

(30.0 cm + 2 × 0.847) / 0.847 − 24 = 13.419 US

Rounding the result

Rounded to the nearest whole or half size, this gives Mr Berg Size 13.5 US Men.

Mr Berg's Mondopoint Shoe Size 300 corresponds to US men's Size 13.5 after conversion.
